I'm Hannah, and I'm a social media lead
Describe your job
I am the global social media lead for an international sports brand. My main responsibility is to define the overall social media strategy for the business unit, including content, social activation and storytelling framework. I've also worked to create content and tell stories across other brand communication channels such as PR and events.
What are the most important skills you need to do your job?
The most important skills I need to do my job are: creative mindset, analytical thinking, writing skills, communication and leadership, adaptability, problem solving, and of course being on top of the latest digital marketing trends.
I left school and...
I left school then I went to Leeds University, studying history and sociology. I volunteered at a psychiatric hospital in Kolkata, India.
Then, I was lucky enough to secure an internship at a corporate PR firm which turned into a job. I stayed for a year, before moving to a social media agency - where I really started to specialise in social media marketing.
Then I worked at a more traditional ad agency, and a digital agency, before being headhunted by the brand I currently work for. In 2017 I moved to Nuremberg, Germany where I’ve been for almost three years.
A few of my favourite projects...
I’ve led the marketing campaigns for a series of young female designers that we have collaborated on collections with, including Danielle Cathari, Olivia Oblanc, and Ji Won Choi - which have been my favorite projects. In some of these I had been able to incorporate brand ambassador Kendall Jenner.
We also recently created an episodic social content series.
Before I started my career, I wish I knew…

Trying different sectors, industries and different roles, fundamentally just expands your skill set horizontally. And making mistakes and the wrong decisions is OK!
A mistake I made which you can avoid repeating is...
Don’t rush into taking a job that may not be right for you. Even if the package/salary is enticing.
Always choose passion over salary. Make sure you use interviews to interview the employer just as much as they are interviewing you.
So, what’s next?
I’d like to continue learning as much as I can from a big brand, and developing as a well rounded marketeer. One day, I’d like to utilise my skills learned to create my own business or work for a charity to give back to the world.
